Often, the assumption about therapy is that it’s for people with really serious issues, and it can be. However, therapy is also about finding ways through the daily stresses that we all feel or coping with major life changes. It’s about managing anxiety and even curbing it altogether. It’s about reaffirming truths we’re already aware of and uncovering past experiences that may be holding us back from truly feeling comfortable, happy or even loved.
When I began to work with a counsellor, I was able to see a little clearer and a little further. I could see that there were different possibilities for me, and I began to deeply appreciate just how much I wanted to grow from where I was. With the professional support I was given, I was able to do what was once uncomfortable and break free from the expectations of others, as well as my own perceived expectations of what society demanded of me. In short, I started living life the way I wanted to live it.
Communicating with those we’re closest to is vital, but it can often impede getting to the root of the thing we’re trying to solve. That’s because we tend to edit the things we say to our family and friends for fear of embarrassment or even hurting them. Working with an impartial and experienced counsellor is an opportunity to be your most authentic self.
